Wedding Day Plans
Plenty of people dream of getting married in their own or their parent’s garden. I have been lucky to be part of helping a number of people’s dream come true. The challenge is always to make sure that the garden looks its best for the big day! This is often in the summer months, June, July or August. Trying to get the garden to peak at that time of year can be a challenge depending on how ambitious your plans are and the weather leading up to the special day.
Like all garden projects the first thing I do is establish the brief. That way we all know what we are aiming for. Creating a garden for a wedding is important but also is the longevity of the garden after. It can be a major investment and one you know will pay off for many years to come. There are special things to consider such as how people will enter the garden, where to position marquees for example, what views will be seen for photographs, how to incorporate facilities such as toilets and caterers.
Everyone wants to see a beautifully planted border complimenting the bride and groom’s choice of attire and colour theme but it also needs to blend in with the vernacular of the house and the planting really needs to be appropriate for the aspect such as morning, afternoon or evening sun, what soil conditions to take into account and if it is a parkland setting what animals such as rabbits or deer are in the vicinity.
There is lighting to consider as well, as often wedding day’s turn into evening reception parties.
