Feature Plant for Autumn

Recently, at the 4 Oaks trade show, where I designed a trade stand for Kolff Plants, I was very impressed with this lovely Nandina Domestica plant (see pics below). Sometimes known as Sacred Bamboo, owing to its Japanese heritage, it reminded me that Autumn is beginning…a great time to consider the different leaf forms, berries and plant shapes in your garden.

It’s easy to end up with an all mid-green garden, but not so easy to get the variety of colour and shape to give it that extra interest. The Nandiana domestica, with small white flowers in large panicles, is a good example of a plant that will take you through all the seasons but it is especially good at this time of year when the leaves are turning and the red berries can be shown off. It’s loved by the birds too!
