Plants suitable for Flower arrangers

There are a number of shrubs you can plant in your garden which are suitable for flower arranging. Here are some useful for winter wreaths and Christmas Decorations. Use them for the leaves, flowers, coloured stems, seed heads or even dried out flowers such as hydrangea.

Salix (Willow) – use stems in winter

Santolina (Cotton Lavender) – leaf sprays in winter

Viburnum – Decidous shrub with white or pink flowers and red berries, use flowers in winter

Corylus Avellana ‘Contorta’ (Twisted nut) – use twisted stems in winter with catkins

Lonicera nitida ‘Baggesen’s Gold’ – golden leaves throughout the year

Jasminum Nudiflorum – winter jasmine

Pyracantha (Firethorn) – use red or yellow berries in winter

Bergenia (Elephant’s ears) – leaves can be used all year round, flowers late winter or spring

Fatsia japonica – good leaf shape for backing flower displays

Cornus alba (Red barked dogwood) – use coloured stems in winter

Virbunum tinus, flowers in winter – use leaves throughout the year

Ilex (Holly) – use leaves and red berries in winter

Cotoneaster – use berries in Winter

Prunus Rotundifolia or Aucuba japonica

Euonymus fortunei – variegated leaves

Garrya Elliptica – catkins in winter

Eleagnus –coloured leaves

Hedera (Ivy) – comes in different leaf sizes including variegated

Eucalyptus – Blue grey foliage

Vina Major – variegata, periwinkle – good for hanging stems
