Planting Simplicity

I have just visited a garden I designed last year during lockdown. It was a large garden with a cow byre at the end. The client brief was to connect the Cow byre to the house and make it useable. The design was classical but with simple planting that could be maintained by the client. I have to say that today I was smiling all the way home because it hit the brief. The client is keeping it beautiful and it packs a punch. Elegant, understated, pure simplicity. The planting pallet was restricted to a colour theme and mass planting. For example the centre beds underneath the hornbeams are a mass of Verbena bonariensis, gaura lindheimeri and alliums next summer. They were waving beautifully in the breeze and late Autumn sun today. Such joy!
